Mercedes-Benz MB 236.17 specification is an ultra-high-performance, ultra-low viscosity Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) specifically developed for the 9G-Tronic (NAG3) 9-speed automatic transmissions (Type 722.9).It is easily identifiable by its Gold/Yellow color, distinguishing it from the earlier Blue (236.15) and Red (236.14) fluids.MB 236.17 is not compatible with older 5-speed or 7-speed transmissions. Using this ultra-low viscosity fluid in a transmission designed for MB 236.14 or 236.15 can result in severe internal damage due to insufficient oil film thickness.MB 236.17 officially replaces the older MB 236.16 specification, which was briefly used in some early 9-speed units.This fluid is not suitable for Mercedes-Benz AMG models with the MCT (Multi-Clutch Transmission) or vehicles equipped with the Off-Road package that specifically calls for different lubrication standards.Designed to withstand the higher thermal loads found in compact 9-speed housings, ensuring the fluid does not break down over long service intervals.
