BMW Radiator Antifreeze Coolant
BMW coolant is critical because different generations of BMW engines use specific chemical formulations that should not be mixed. BMW has transitioned through several "Lifetime Coolant" standards, often identified by their color and "LC" (Life Cycle) code. This is the most common coolant for classic and modern BMWs up to mid-2018. It is formulated to protect aluminum components without the use of phosphates, which can cause scaling in hard water.Introduced to meet stricter environmental regulations (specifically regarding the exclusion of 2-ethylhexanoic acid). It is the current factory fill for almost all new BMW models (G-chassis and later). Most BMW coolants are sold as concentrates. The standard recommended mix is 50% coolant and 50% distilled water, which provides protection down to -37°C.Always use distilled or deionized water. Tap water contains minerals (like calcium) that react with the coolant to form deposits, reducing heat transfer efficiency.
